This course is for you if you have already mastered English at a high level, but would like to fine-tune your business English further so you become even better and are better able to avoid potential misunderstandings.

Therefore, we will focus on high-level skills such as summarising decisions and rounding off meetings.
We will also look at how you can improve the impression you make on your business partners and colleagues, and you will have the opportunity to hone your social skills when it comes to engaging in small talk and breaking the ice when meeting new contacts.

You have reached such a high level with English that you will be able to discuss serious issues with your business contacts. Therefore, one of the chapters in the course book focuses on fossil fuels, CO2 emissions and renewable energy sources, as the environment is becoming an increasingly important subject for discussion in the light of climate change.

For written assignments, you will have the chance to practise writing formal letters and emails for which you will receive feedback from your teacher.

Teaching material
We recommend that you buy the book Market Leader 3rd Edition Extra Advanced Course book with DVD-ROM Pack (Pearson Education ESL), ISBN 9781292135274, before the course starts. The book has been developed in cooperation with The Financial Times. We will study selected pages from chapters 1-3.
You can buy the book here: academicbooks.dk or at Academic Books, Øster Farimagsgade 5A, 1353 Copenhagen K.

Practical information
You will have access to our online learning platform, Moodle, where you will find the course plan, teaching material, homework and other useful online resources for learning English, which your teacher has selected for you and your class. Via Moodle, you can also communicate with your teacher and fellow students.

The number of students on all courses at the Cambridge Institute is just 4-8. Small classes mean that your teacher has more time to help you personally during each lesson.

Preparation time: 1-2 hours per week.

Ben Galvin

Ben is a TESOL qualified teacher with a strong business background gained in the telecoms and insurance industries. He is a qualified telecoms engineer and has worked on some interesting and unusual projects in his telecoms career. Ben is from West Yorkshire in the north of England and is a keen hiker. Living so close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park gave him the chance to walk in some of England’s most beautiful countryside.

Ben moved to Denmark and began teaching a year ago and he really enjoys watching his students develop their English skills and seeing their confidence grow. He loves meeting people from all over the world and learning about different cultures.

Ben recommends:
Food & drink: a homemade steak and ale pie and a pint of Black Sheep bitter in a cosy Dales pub, especially good after a long day’s hiking!
Places to visit: The beautiful and historic city of York, the modern and vibrant city of Leeds and the idyllic village of Kettlewell.
Learning tips: Watch English television and listen to English radio, it’s a great way to learn from native speakers. Never be afraid to speak, it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes.
