On this course, you will develop your English skills further so that you are able to discuss more complex topics such as career plans or business strategies.

You will also be able to hold simple negotiations in English and write business-related texts such as emails to customers or suggest how a company should invest. These short texts will be a part of your written homework for which your teacher will give you constructive feedback.
Other topics for discussion include buying behaviour and how your online image can affect your career, the latter based on an article from the Telegraph. You will also listen to an interview with a finance director from a broadcasting company.
During the course, you will learn how to give a competent presentation about your company and talk to suppliers, customers and business partners on the phone. Conducting business on the phone often requires some special language skills because the person you are talking to can not see your body language or facial expressions. This will involve, amongst others, learning how to say no diplomatically/politely.
In terms of grammar, we will focus on accurate use of, e.g. the present simple and present continuous and modal verbs (must, need to, can, would, have and should ).
Teaching material
We recommend that you buy the book Market Leader 3rd Edition Extra Pre-Intermediate Course book with DVD-ROM Pack (Pearson Education ESL), ISBN 978-1292134796, before the course starts. The book has been developed in cooperation with The Financial Times. We will study selected pages from the first three chapters.
You can buy the book here: www.academicbooks.dk, or at Academic Books, Øster Farimagsgade 5A, 1353 Copenhagen K.

Practical information
You will have access to our online learning platform, Moodle, where you will find the course plan, teaching material, homework and other useful online resources for learning English, which your teacher has selected for you and your class. Via Moodle, you can also communicate with your teacher and fellow students.

The number of students on all courses at the Cambridge Institute is just 4-8. Small classes mean that your teacher has more time to help you personally during each lesson.

Preparation time: 1-2 hours per week.
